Tri for the Cure.  Denver, CO August 7, 2011
The Tri for the Cure is a sprint-distance triathlon for women of any age, athletic ability or fitness level.  Swim, bike and run to benefit the Denver Metropolitan Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and end breast cancer forever.
Sprint Distance
Swim 750M (1/2 Mile)
Bike 18.3K (11.4 Miles)
Run 5K (3.1 Miles)

My mom and I were lucky enough to fly to Colorado for 5 days!  My sister, Mandy, had asked us to do this triathlon with her.  My Grandma Johnson has been battling breast cancer on and off for 8 years.  She is currently undergoing chemo.  I have never heard my grandma complain anymore than, "I do feel a little tired."  She is one amazing woman who keeps fighting.  Her gentle, encouraging spirit plays such an important role in my life.  We also have three aunts and a great grandma who have battled breast cancer.  We couldn't think of a better triathlon to do.

We have been swimming, biking and running all summer.  (Thanks Phillip for being supportive and watching the kids)  My right knee causes me pain...but it hung in there for me!  (Thanks Becky for being my over-the-phone trainer)  This was the first time any of us have done a triathlon.  It was an incredible experience!  We left on Saturday morning and returned home on Wednesday. (Thanks Laurie for coming to watch the kids)

My mom had these tank tops made for us by Jodi!  We got a ton of compliments on them.
Mandy picked us up from the airport and we went straight to the Race Expo/packet pick-up.  We were pretty excited to have our numbers put on our arms and legs!  The Expo was a lot bigger than we expected.  We had a blast walking around the tents and listening to the speakers.

This was a pro-triathlete.  She was hilarious and super motivating.  She was giving us tips on our "transitions."
After the expo we stopped to visit my Aunt Diane and family, did a little thrift shopping (the first of many stops!) & ended the day with some carb-loading at Shells and Sauce.  Then we headed back to Mandy's house for the night.
