Moorehead Park
I took the boys to see the Life on the Prairie: Tipi Living How a tipi is set up...
Lots of fun weapons...
Of course, shooting a rifle was a highlight...
My mountain boys.
Tipi is a Dakota (Sioux) word meaning "used to live in". By 1825, the Ioway Indians in the Maple River valley had been displaced by the more aggressive Dakota tribes. Prior to 1851, northwest Iowa was regarded as Indian Territory, and the earliest white explorers, traders and trappers often overwintered with the Native Americans and even married into their families, thus experiencing tipi living.
