Our kids were at Grandpa Alan & Grandma Laurie's house while Phillip and I were attending a conference in Ames. Right before our lunch break, Brooks put his hand on top of the HOT wood burning stove. We stopped at Alan and Laurie's before heading off to lunch with some friends. When we first arrived, they told us Brooks had touched the stove, but at this time, we all thought he had just burnt his finger tips. We were ready to let Grandma take care of the situation and were debating on where to eat. Then Grandma brought Brooks out to us. I knew immediately something was really wrong. My tough little guy was screaming in pain. It was then Phillip and I realized Brooks had burnt his entire palm and fingertips. We hopped in the van and headed to the E.R. Thankfully we were familiar with Ames and could drive right to the ER. It was a long 10 minute drive. Brooks only settled down enough to catch his breath. By the time we got to the ER, Brooks was hitting Phillip in the face with his burnt hand---it hurt so bad.  We got right into the ER.  They had to give Brooks a shot of morphine to settle him down.  The doctor said he has second degree burns and we will have to follow up with the Burn Unit in Iowa City on Tuesday.

Our little dude 10 minutes after his shot of morphine.
Later Saturday evening....yes, he is on some good drugs!

We have to dress his hand once every day.  Burns need to stay moist.  First we put Bacitracin

on his blisters, then cover it with Vaseline lined gauze, then wrap it, then put a sock over the whole thing.  He is very protective of his left hand.  If you ask to see his owie, he will hold up his hand and say, "hot!"  It's pretty cute!

Enjoy the photo book of the blisters...
It is amazing how much it has healed in two weeks!

Brooks-er you have stolen our hearts.
We are so glad your hand is feeling better.

So sad. Makes me hurt just looking at it. I'm so glad he is feeling better. Noah asks to pray for Brooks every night.
