Sequoia National Park
On Wednesday we ventured "the back way" into Sequoia National Park--after we were warned NOT to take the washed out, switch backs, steep, low clearance road with our mini van, we did! (Needless to say, it saved time, but we took the LONG way back to our campsite)
We made it!
We parked at the General Sherman parking lot and hiked to see the world famous sequoia tree.
This was a memorable experience as a family.
It is hard to begin to comprehend their size.
We hiked from the General Sherman to a small museum a few miles away. The main path was crowded with people, but after we were a quarter mile off the path, we had the place to ourselves. Right there in the middle of the Sequoia National Park.
One of my personal favorites were the fallen Sequoias. They were massive. The kids climbed the root system of this one. It took them a long time! It was fun to see them run up the trunk.
I have a lot of pictures of trees. Big trees.
We like to hike.
Our perfect lunch rock. (Brooks took the picture.) Funny story--we only saw a few people on our "off the beaten path" hike. As we were really OFF the path to find a lunch spot, we noticed a family following us. They were really lost and very confused when we stopped at the rock to eat. It was funny to explain to them what we were doing.
Brooks got one of his bad headaches (which he gets when he is over fatigued and exhausted) on the hike. Once a headache hits, it is hard for him to overcome it. Phillip took Anabel & Brooks via the shuttle back to the van while Evan and I checked out the little museum.
Evan also toured the museum with Phillip when he returned with the van.
Sweet, wiped out kids.
Back at camp. Warm and cozy with hot chocolate and a good campfire story.
