Day 5

Buena Vista Hike
Hume Lake

After a long day in Sequoia National Park on Wednesday, we lowered our expectations for Thursday.  We planned to do Buena Vista Peak Trail which was a mile to the peak.  The kids rebounded great.  This turned out to be one of our favorite days.  We hiked to the top and spent a couple hours with 360 degree views.  The kids climbed rocks, built cairns, ate lunch, read and relaxed.

After our relaxing hike, we headed to Hume Lake.  It was fun to explore this reservoir in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  There were mini waterfalls leading to the lake.  The kids had a blast playing in the cold water.  Phillip hiked with the kids up the falls and I read in a chair next to the stream.

We then swam in the lake and played on the beach.
We took the drive back nice and slow.  Anabel was still getting car sick/dizzy each time we drove somewhere.  She wouldn't complain, just lay her head down on the back seat.  We resorted to letting the kids watch movies on the laptop when we drove in and out of the park.  It was a much longer trip than we anticipated and the curves and hills would make anyone feel woozy.  It was much better when we decided not to rush it.
It allowed it us to enjoy the views even more....
Steve (aka Frank renamed by our kids) our campsite host recommended that we stop by the one and only "restaurant" near our campground for milkshakes.  It was a one ma & pop shop.
We enjoyed soaking up the local culture.  Our local rancher even came in for some coffee.  We had a fun time chatting with him!
On the way back to our campground, Phillip slammed on the brakes, pulled over, jumped out and ran behind the van.  I was so nervous something was wrong the van.  Turns out, he spotted a tarantula on the road.  Yuck.
This little dude goes full speed all.day.long.  He had a hard time staying awake for story time each night.
